New Year, New Colors…

2015 Color Predictions!

2015 color trends

We have the whole year ahead of us to dream, create, dazzle and delight! Life will be changing all around us, from new fashion trends to new hairstyles, breaking news stories and more, 2015 will make its own mark.

In the home decorating world, the most popular trends and colors will gradually make their unveiling throughout the next twelve months. With Pantone announcing “Marsala” as the color of the year, we thought it would be fun to make our own predictions as to what colors will ultimately reign in 2015!

1. Warm Earthy Tones: With Marsala debuting as the 2015 color of the year, it seems only right that earthy tones will be seen alongside. Expect a warm mixture of toasty browns and oranges to chic and sophisticated hues of tan and beige.

2. Bold Color Mixing: Bright colors are always in fashion! This year we expect there to be more mixing and matching of colors for an energetic impact. A bold feature wall or colorful piece of furniture is a wonderful starting point followed by a vibrant piece of art, pillow, duvet cover, lamp shade or kitchen appliance for the finishing touch.

3. Green Makes a Comeback: Benjamin Moore announced Guilford Green as their 2015 color of the year. A pale silvery green, this soothing hue creates a peaceful interior that’s hard to match. On the other end of the spectrum, warm olive tones are being seen in both furniture and wall décor. This rich, natural hue is truly lovely (in the right shade of course!).

4. Gray as a Neutral: Sophisticated, chic, trendy and stylish, gray is the “it” color. With the ability to stand alone or act as a neutral, gray isn’t going anywhere anytime soon! From walls to furniture, linens, rugs, accent pieces and beyond, there is not much that can’t be covered in this clean and polished hue.

5. Everything Blue: We saw blue make a comeback last year and we think it’s here to stay (at least for a little while longer..!). Bright Mediterranean style blues to gorgeous ocean shades, deep navy tones and more transform any space into majestic haven.

Guest Room Decorating Ideas!

Make Your Guests Feel at Home this Holiday Season

Guest room Decorating Ideas

Whether you’re traveling this holiday season or planning to stay put to play host to both family and friends, the thought of where you’re going to stay or where you’re going to place your many guests, is one that’s probably not far from your mind. With just a few weeks till Thanksgiving, making sure that all your I’s are dotted and your T’s are crossed, will make this busy time of year one that both your guests as well as yourself will be able to enjoy!

Guest rooms should be both warm and inviting, a place where your guests can relax and feel at home in, as well as a place to escape to from the holiday chaos or even just a much needed nap. Put yourself in your guest’s shoes, what would make you feel at home, comfortable, at ease?  With just a few simple gestures, you can make sure that your guests are not only happy, but also well taken care of.

The Basics:

The basic guest room necessities that every room should have are a variety of standard pillows, extra blankets and throws, as well as a set of towels that should be left out for your guest to access whenever they need. So whether your guest likes their pillows soft and fluffy, or they prefer three layers of blankets to just two, you will be able to rest easy knowing that they will have a good night’s sleep.

For Extra Comfort:

For added comfort, making sure that your guest has access to a bedside lamp, good size mirror and easily accessible fan, will make their stay even more enjoyable. Having a fan accessible to drown out noise during the night, or having the coziness of a warm reading light are all things we usually take for granted, so making sure that your guest still has access to these home comforts are important to your guest room’s design.

From a personalized framed WI-FI password to a fabulous cart filled with tissues and extra reading material, when it comes to your guest room design the extra perks DO make a difference! – Images via Today’s Creative Blog, WallPops, Curbly, Pinterest & Apartment Therapy

Added Perks:

We all enjoy extra perks, so why not make your guest room extra special with these added accessories! An elegant display of flowers for both beauty and scent, a box of tissues so they don’t have to walk all the way to the bathroom, a warm and inviting wall quote to make them feel at home, a pile of books and magazines for reading material in case they forget their own, and finally a water pitcher and glass in case they get thirsty in the middle of the night. By investing just a bit of extra time in your overall guest room appearance, not only will your guest thank you, but you will feel grateful knowing that you provided a home away from home.

Feature Wall Ideas & Inspiration via Pinterest

The word “feature wall” may seem a little intimidating, for where do you even begin when designing a wall that’s meant to be sassy and bright and full of both pattern and intrigue? Where multitasking is a part of our daily routines and time being of the essence, many of us don’t have the time to dedicate hours and energy to a 3-4 day project. So how do you design a statement wall that’s both easy and stress-free? Yes, WallPops!

Before & After Looks from our Feature Wall Video (watch below!)

We chose a look that was that was both modern and a little trendy, with chic metallic accents and a fabulous geometric print

The first step is to decide on the look you want. Do you want a look that’s modern? Trendy? Colorful? Bright? Neutral? Once you decide on the particular style, you can start to have fun with the layout. You can use a combination of patterns like we did in the video below or instead stick to one specific design.

Whether you’re looking for decorating ideas for a living room, bedroom or apartment, using WallPops to design a feature wall in any room is easy, fast and affordable. You can have the look of a designer wallpaper in less than 30 minutes with a host of fashionable and trendy decal designs that can be switched up and removed when you either move or want to redesign the look of your space. Decorating in a Small Space

Never let size be an obstacle to style! If you have a small space to decorate, here are some special tips and tricks to make the room work for you.

Go On a Color Spree - it is a common misconception that you should stick to all white in a small space. “Embrace small spaces and make them feel like jewel boxes—don’t be afraid of dark or bright colors,” says designer Jonathan Adler. Other designers assert that bright colors can distract from the limited size of your space, creating a beautiful ambiance. While white and other pale hues an be a beautiful choice for petite quarters, color can also be used to create a focal point, divert attention from the fact that a room is small, and to give any space some razzle dazzle, no matter what its size!

Create Vertical Allure With Curtains-  look up! Even if you don’t have particularly high ceilings, you can enhance the perceived size of your space by optimizing the upper wall space. One tried and true trick is to hang your curtain rods above the window frame, even as high as the ceiling! While your instinct may be to hang curtains at the top of the window, you can truly accomplish drama and height by hanging your curtains higher and having them drop all of the way to the floor.

Another practical and attractive technique is to install shelves up high. In addition to creating new, out of the way space to display items, this will draw the eye up to new areas of the room, taking advantage of every inch! Add attractive baskets or boxes to the shelves for extra storage of items not “display worthy”.

Compelling Stripes- it is a fashion fact that up and down stripes can make you look longer and leaner, while horizontal lines make you look wider. The same principle can be applied to home decor. To make a room look taller, accentuate the height with tall, thin stripes. And to make a wall look more expansive, add long lines. Stripes are timeless and chic, and make a great focal point for walls. Try using removable stripes decals for perfect stripes every time!

Making an Organization Hub

Bright and friendly, this colorful organization hub turns this high traffic area into a stylish place to dine, while allowing you to stay up to speed with the day’s activities.

When all the beach chairs have been stored away and the back to school rush initiates once again, the importance of staying both organized and on top of day to day activities becomes not only a huge priority but a daily challenge we can’t escape. Whether it’s remembering a doctor’s appointment or Spanish test or having to grocery shop for that huge dinner you’re hosting on Saturday night, between work and soccer games, appointments and last minute plans, staying coordinated and on time becomes a game of cat and mouse. The solution? Create a place in your home where organization reigns, a place where you can go that has all the answers!

You don’t need a lot of space to stay organized! This cute (and compact) area serves as a perfect central spot for lists, notes, important dates and more!

Whether it is in your kitchen or out, your office, bedroom or hallway, the beauty of an organization hub is that there is one place that you and your family can go to keep track of plans, goals, lists, upcoming deadlines and more. Be creative! Add pops of color or pretty accents, calendars, message boards and fun details.

Tie your whole look together with a fresh wall decal or piece of decorative art.

Make this space fit into your home but stand out just enough that you are always checking in! Make room for both the big stuff as well as the little stuff. And if you need a change of scenery, mix it up with a fresh design or have fun rearranging what’s already there.

Personalize your space with memorable photographs or pretty plants and flowers!
