The beginning of April marks a renaissance of life outdoors! While natures first greens of the season are unfurling and purple hyacinth are popping up outside, the interior of your home should also enjoy a refreshed look. This is the time to let the light in, swapping out thick curtains for sheers and lace, and sprinkle your home with inspiring pops of pretty! Here are 5 ways to use Springs color and home decor trends in your space for a rejuvenated style.
Splash of Color

This Season, pastels are bathing everything in delicate hues of pink, pistachio, baby blue and lavender. These midtone versions of Easter candy hues are delightful and chic, adding a creamy dream soft beauty to everything from swimsuits to kitchen appliances. Somewhat reminiscent of the 1950s, these tender hues have an inviting and fresh feel. Try painting a wooden chair, making a feature wall, or introducing a new accessory into your home this season in a pretty pastel tint.
Blossoming Branches Or Potted Bulbs
image via Brewster Home Fashions
It is widely known that a vase of fresh flowers brings a room to life. This year, think outside the bouquet and try decorating with branches or potted bulbs instead. Not only do these options last longer than cut flowers, they also have a sophisticated whimsy. Spring sprigs, like pussy willows, almond tree boughs and flowering cherry tree branches add height and enchantment to decor. Buy cut branches or snip your own to enjoy the gradual blossom of nature unfolding indoors. Potted bulbs provide a similar sense of charm, building anticipation as a spike of fresh green leaves slowly buds into a colorful posy of flowers.

Florals never really go out of style, they just take on new tendencies each season. This year it seems watercolor florals, pixelated graphic florals and vintage chic retro florals are all the rage. Pick your passion or fee free to mix and match, because you simply cannot go wrong with flowers in the Springtime. Try mixing floral prints into the room with a tablecloth, a framed piece of art or wall decal kit, a garland of blossoms strung across a window, or in accent pieces like plates, vases or even napkins.
We recommend swapping out pillows often! It is one of the quickest and most effective ways to renew a space. In the Winter we like to cuddle up on the couch, surrounded by fabrics like fur, velvet, and warm knits. April is the perfect time to trade these pillows for bright and cool new looks, with seasonally appropriate fabrics like linen, cotton and lace. Experiment with the seasons fascination with metallics, mixing pastels with gold accents and fun florals with shimmery sequins.
Bowl of Beauty
found on pier 1 sweet spring theme dish with pastel candy almonds
Is there anything more welcoming than a bowl full of treats to enjoy? Think of the sweet lady who always has candy on her desk, your favorite neighborhood restaurant with the delicious mints, or your Martha Stewart channeling relative who always has little snacks out to enjoy. Get seasonal and sweet with your own little dish of goodies – it’s an opportunity to bring out your cutest dish and to make somebody smile – even yourself! Or, for a purely aesthetic display, try a bowl of floating blossoms, artichokes, or moss. To make your own decorative vessel check out our video on updating plain vases with designer decals. The results are gorgeous!
Easter is especially fun to decorate for because it comes at the cusp of Spring. By April we are so ready for pastels, fresh flowers, and bunny rabbits, and Easter arrives with the perfect excuse to get glittery and colorful. It is also a really cute holiday for kids crafts, presenting so many adorable traditions like egg dying, Easter baskets, and Easter egg hunts. Here are a few darling ways to bring an Easter flair to life in your home this year!
Make an Easter Theme Mantel
image via Better Homes & Gardens
Lots of people decorate their mantels for the winter holidays, with stockings and candles, ornaments and garland. An Easter theme mantel decor is just as fun, with a whole new color scheme! Pick a theme, or cultivate a scene with decorated eggs, bunny knick-knacks, flowering branches, and fresh flowers. All of our favorite examples here also use a cute swag to complete the look. This can be an easy and fun DIY project on its own, one you can re-use from year to year. The mantel to the left uses colorful ribbon and strips of craft paper in pastel prints tied to a piece of yarn. Below, the letters S-P-R-I-N-G provide inspiration for a festive pennant, while the felt carrots on a green ribbon make a playful statement piece in the bottom image.

Use Your Cake Plates to Create an Easter Display
Cake plates are beautiful! We are guilty of having several tucked away in our cabinets, and we love any excuse to show them off! Why wait for cake? Take them out now and create a tiered display. The cake plates themselves have a cheerful and decorative look, especially when used to display your Easter eggs in a pretty nest, or topped with tiny vases of tulips. Cake plates make a gorgeous tablescape idea for Easter decor, and we love an excuse to have them out of the China cabinet so that we can admire them! This also saves room on the table because you can take advantage of vertical space, creating tiers of cupcakes, eggs, flowers, appetizers and more, with lots of layers of visual interest.

A little love for your walls: Inspire affection with some sweet sentiment on the walls! These wall words are beautiful enough to enjoy year round, and artfully capture the spirit of Valentines Day. All You Need is Love is a cherished Beatle’s lyric, beautifully rendered as a romantic focal point. The Love Kit is made of plush black flock, giving this wall art a velvety depth. The beautiful swirling design is inspired by folk art and needlepoint and was designed by Jonathan Adler for WallPops.
Write love notes! With dry-erase decals you can make personalized Valentines messages where everybody can see! You can even change up your declarations whenever the whim strikes. Just erase “I choo-choo-choose you” and replace with “I like you berry much” anytime! Choose from Red Hot red decals or Flirt pink and remember that you can cut them to any size and shape!
Get pretty in pink! Make a feature wall in your entryway, kitchen or at work with pink wall decals. Declared as the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid is an intoxicating mixture of fuchsia, purple and pink hues. An imaginative shade, Radiant Orchid brings serenity when incorporated throughout the home, and gives a vivid warmth to any space. Inspired by the exotic orchid flower, and found in designs around the world, this pretty purple Color of the Year is complemented by a wide array of accents and undertones, making it a true pleasure to execute in your own home.
Radiant Orchid is a totally different direction from last year’s Pantone Color of the Year, Emerald,” says Paula Berberian, Creative Director of Brewster Home Fashions for WallPops. “The softer shade makes quite a statement when paired with neutrals like taupe and cream, and is even more striking alongside brighter hues like turquoise and yellow.” Here, Berberian offers tips on how to incorporate Radiant Orchid into your home to create an elegant look.
Create an Accent Wall
It’s often intimidating to introduce a new color into your home, so starting on a smaller scale makes it easier to take the plunge. Instead of dressing an entire room in Radiant Orchid, focus on just one area to test out the shade. The dining room is an ideal space for dramatic designs, so choose which wall serves best as the center of attention. Pictured above, our Plush purple stripes creates an ideal accent. After adding the enchanting Radiant Orchid accents, the wall becomes the highlight of the room.
Accessories like throws, pillows and rugs can quickly turn any space into a coordinated design with on-trend appeal. Subdued colors such as grey, cream and taupe work well in the bedroom, but can often come up short when you are trying to create a bold design. Keep larger furniture and substantial details like comforters and curtains in neutral tones, but incorporate soft blankets and textured decorative pillows in Radiant Orchid for a touch of sophistication and style. Tie in the Color of the Year by arranging WallPops Plush Dots, Box and Stripes decals between windows or above the bed for an all-around cohesive design.
Focus on Florals
Caitlin Wilson via decorismo
If the idea of Radiant Orchid triggers visions of languid afternoons spent reading in the garden, that’s because orchids are tropical flowers! Capitalize on that exotic charm by filling your space with fresh flowers and captivating floral prints. Fresh pops of purple blooms in white vases will make any room feel more luxurious. Or, for a year round radiant orchid inspiration, decorate with floral wall decals!
Next week is Christmas! This means no school for the kids, winter vacation for college students, and many of us grown ups have at least part if not the whole week off from work. What are your favorite things to do on holiday break? In no particular order here are our favorite 5 things to do this winter break!
1. Decorate! There are so many reasons why this week is one of the best times to roll up your sleeves and tackle a DIY home decor project! If you are anything like us, you have spent the whole year ogling Pinterest and dreaming over HGTV. Well the year is almost over and it’s time to bring some of that inspiration to life! Use this time, the last week of the year, to give your own home a stylish update. Using your time for a creative project launches you into the New year with a sense of rejuvenation and pride about your surroundings! This doesn’t mean you have to tear out the kitchen cabinets or build a roof deck! Set a reasonable goal, like revamping your work space or turning a blank wall into a beautiful focal point and work from there.
2. Organize Photos. In the digital age it seems like we take more photos than ever, yet we have less and less time to do anything with them all. Take stock of your year’s images and make sure that you will be able to enjoy all of these beautiful memories forever. Upload all of the images from your phone, back up photos on memory sticks or discs, and categorize your folders of pictures into a system that will make it easier for you to find them later. This is also a brilliant time to print out some of your favorites from the year and make an album, frame some for the wall, and gift them to our friends and loved ones.

3. Cook. The holiday season, and the whole year, really, can seem like a whirlwind of non-stop activities, appointments, gatherings, shopping, errands, commuting and so much more. While we have to eat every day, we do not always get the time to linger over a recipe, or bake something from scratch. Try out a new recipe, or spend an afternoon whipping up something spectacular, just because you can! Then enjoy your delicious concoction with some of your favorite people. This is also a great project to do at home with kids, or as a couple.
4. Call Your Loved Ones. These days, in many situations, texts, emails and social media have taken over the communication lines. We find out about everything from a friends broken leg to whether your cousin is having a girl or a boy baby from Facebook. An actual phone call can be rare, especially one that lasts more than 5 minutes! Use this time around the holidays to reach out and catch up with family and friends. They will be delighted to hear from you!
5. Get out & enjoy your community! No matter where you live, chances are there are fun things going on this week! Find out about yoga classes at nearby studios, explore your closest library, spend the afternoon looking in local shops and art galleries, or go ice skating at a neighborhood rink or pond. You don’t have to plan a 3 ring circus or book an extravagant getaway! Explore your own city or town and finally take the time to get to some of those places you have been noticing throughout the year.
How are you doing on your holiday shopping? While some go-getters may already be done, and others havent even started, many of us still have at least a few people on our lists to shop for. Stocking stuffers are some of the most fun gifts to get and can be as simple as an orange or as unexpected as a sweet piece of jewelry. While nobody is entirely sure how the tradition of hanging stockings up on the mantel for Santa began, here is the legend that we heard: A long, long time ago, a very poor father had three beautiful daughters. He was worried that he would not have enough money to ensure that they would could be married, and feared for their futures. St. Nicholas happened to be passing through the village and got wind of the old man’s woes. He waited until night and then tossed gold coins through the man’s window, filling up the socks that the man and his daughters had hung by the fire to dry. They were surprised and overjoyed in the morning to find their stocking filled with gold, and they girls were able to get married and lived happily ever after. While we may never know exactly how the tradition came about, we love it! Aside from having to be small enough to fit in the stocking, there are no rules to stocking gift etiquette. Some families have traditions, like toys, candy or toothbrushes. We hope nobody ever gets coal in theirs! Here is our round up of gifts from WallPops that would be absolutely delightful stocking stuffer gift ideas & Don’t forget that you can save 20% on the whole website with WallPops coupon code GIFT2013
